Aircraft by Diamond

At Aeropole we have a modern fleet of Diamond aircraft at our students’ disposal. Diamond Aircraft Industries is the largest European manufacturer of new-generation general aviation aircraft and has been at the forefront of technological development in the domain of composite aircraft structures, which have now become mainstream up to the largest airliners. Our smaller single-engine aircraft are powered by proven, fuel-injected Continental engines. The New Generation variants, on the other hand, have most modern and reliable Austro diesel engines on them.

To complement the Diamond fleet of actual aircraft, we offer our students the possibility to fly our Diamond simulator, which is a perfect match with the real aircraft, regardless of weather and other operational constraints.

See below for more details on our aircraft.

DA40NG – New Generation

The New Generation Diamond Star (DA40NG) is a most modern IFR training platform and the perfect cross-country touring machine. It performs much better than the older Centurion (Thielert) diesel engines and boasts not only Garmin G1000 but also the integrated Garmin GFC700 autopilot along with a Stormscope, Synthetic Vision Technology, Jeppesen ChartView and other goodies — all features greatly appreciated by pilots wanting more performance and utility, and practically a must in today’s professional pilot training. Aviation Consumer (Jan-2012) revealed how the DA40 has by far been the safest aircraft type in its category!

DA20-C1 – Evolution/Eclipse

DA20-C1

The Diamond Evolution/Eclipse (DA20-C1) is a modern two-seater used for basic pilot training by flight schools around the world, including the US Air Force. It is more performant than the widely-used Cessna C152 and has features such as a brisk injected engine, an electric trim, and has an almost unrestricted view from the canopy. The only difference between Evolution and Eclipse is that the latter has rear windows. Despite its similar looks, the DA20-C1 is not to be confused with its Rotax-powered little brother “Katana” (DA20-A1) that has 25 hp less in power. The newest Eclipse in our fleet is equipped with G500 and GTN650, and even the oldest one, with traditional instruments, has the Garmin GNS430 radio/GPS.

The Diamond Star (DA40-180) is a modern four-seater widely used both for pilot training and as a versatile cross-country touring machine. It is much more performant than its diesel-engine cousin and boasts the Garmin G1000 glass cockpit. It, too, has a very good visibility in all directions from the canopy, and any pilot familiar with the DA20 will find the transition to the DA40 easy. New DA40-180 pilots will learn how to use the constant speed propeller, the autopilot and of course the G1000 — all features greatly appreciated by pilots wanting more performance and utility. Aviation Consumer (Jan-2012) revealed how the DA40 has by far been the safest aircraft type in its category!

Technical data:

Year of manufacture 2004
No of seats 4

DA40-TDI – Star, Thielert 2.0

The Diamond Star (DA40-TDI) is a modern four-seater widely used both for pilot training and as a versatile cross-country touring machine. It is a equipped with the Thielert 2.0 diesel engine and a traditional instrument panel with dual Garmin GNS430 units and a slaved HSI coupled to the KAP140 autopilot. It, too, has a very good visibility in all directions from the canopy, and any pilot familiar with the DA20 will find the transition to the DA40 easy, especially as the turbo-charged engine is computer controlled and the pilot only needs to move one lever (the power) instead of three. (Hence the “SLPC”, see below.)  New DA40-180 pilots will find the aircraft very easy to fly. Aviation Consumer (Jan-2012) revealed how the DA40 has by far been the safest aircraft type in its category!

Technical data:

Year of manufacture 200x
No of seats 4
Engine Thielert 2.0

(Club members may in fact be able to rent the aircraft at a reduced rate.)

DA42NG-VI – Austro/G1000

DA42NG

The New Generation Diamond DA42NG is a truly modern light twin. Thanks to its lower operating cost, the DA42 has largely taken over the European professional pilot training market from Piper Senecas and similar “gaz guzzlers”. It is TKS anti-ice equipped and thus makes year-round IFR possible. The NG version with its 168 hp Austro engines is much more performant than the original Thielert-equipped versions. Garmin G1000 glass cockpit comes as standard, of course. Furthermore the “dash six” has several performance improvements over the original NG model and ours is even equipped with the Garmin weather radar and air conditioning!

Technical data:

Year of manufacture 2014
No of seats 4
Engines 2 x AE 300
Engine power 2 x 168 hp
Typical cruise speed 170 KTAS
MSL climb performance at MTOM 1150 fpm

R*: SR20 G2 – Avidyne Entegra

Not a Diamond but let’s give the other major modern GA plane manufacturer a chance, too. This SR20 G2 is equipped with the Avidyne Entegra glass cockpit whereas the 3rd-generation SR20’s and SR22’s feature Garmin G1000. But the Avidyne glass, dual GNS430s and the Stec 55X autopilot is also a very capable combination. This specimen is available to qualified renters only, and just goes to say that whatever your training needs in technically advanced aircraft (Diamond, Cirrus, or any other glass cockpit retrofit), we can train you to the level you need — whether it’s a new IR(A) rating, the RNAV/GPS approach endorsement, real-life IFR exposure or just better overall confidence in mastering your Cirrus hardware.

Aviation Consumer (Jan-2012) concluded that the Cirrus SR20/SR22 series, which all have the ballistic parachute system as standard, has an overall accident record that is better than average for light aircraft, exceeded only by the Diamond DA40 and DA42.

Technical data:

Year of manufacture 2005
No of seats 4
Engine Continental IO-360-ES
Engine power 200 hp
Typical cruise speed 130 KTAS
MSL climb performance at MTOM xxx fpm

DA42 SIM

mittaristo ja logoTo support very effective learning in both the DA40 and DA42 cockpits, we have also acquired a Diamond Simulation FNPT II device that is a truthful representation of the DA42 twin. To begin with, the cockpit is a real DA42 cockpit with real Garmin G1000!

With the ability to pause simulation, to rerun the drills in focus, and with the possibility to practise things we couldn’t practise in real aircraft (many “real” failures for example) the simulator provides an invaluable addition to Aeropole’s fleet. It can also more cost-effectively be used for learning the ins and outs of the Garmin G1000 glass cockpit.

Needless to say, the time spent in the simulator is very effectively used time indeed, without the need to do all the pre-flight preparations necessary when flying real aircraft.

Technical data:

Year of manufacture 2010
Certification category FNPT II
Visual system CAE Tropos 1000/6000

The simulator is conveniently located by the Aviapolis train stop at Helsinki-Vantaa airport.
